Picture Day is the day your mom spends the morning helicoptering you, stressing about a strand of hair that won’t lie flat. Then at school, you stand in line while a sweaty photographer tells dad jokes and takes your classmates’ pictures. His camera is the size of a small puppy and he surrounds you with equipment that looks like it came from NASA. For a brief moment you feel famous, but the end result is a photograph you hate. Nonetheless, it will make its rounds to aunts and uncles, cousins and of course grandma’s refrigerator. Some day you’ll find it in an old scrapbook or shoe box, and smile.
Today is Picture Day at my kids’ school, so I thought it’d be fun to share this little demo.
“Picture Day”
Lyrics
PICTURE DAY! PICTURE DAY!
TUCK YOUR SHIRT IN COMB YOUR HAIR DAY
BRUSH YOUR TEETH SO NICE AND NEAT
THEY’LL ALL THINK THAT YOU DON’T EAT SWEETS
BUT YOU DO, DON’T YOU?
I DO, TOO
IT’S PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY! PICTURE DAY!
DON’T YOU KNOW WHERE YOU’LL END UP?
NO, NO, NOT UNDERNEATH A BRIDGE
I’M TALKING ‘BOUT YOUR GRANDMA’S FRIDGE.
EYE LEVEL, ALL YEAR
I HOPE I’M MAKING MYSELF CLEAR
IT’S PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
IT’S JUST ONE DAY OF THE YEAR
HEY, GET OVER HERE
YOU STILL GOT DIRT BEHIND YOUR EARS
IT’S PICTURE DAY, PICTURE DAY
DON’T FORGET TO SMILE NOW
YOU’LL STAND IN LINE FOR AWHILE NOW
THERE’S CHANCE YOU’LL WANNA BE A GRUMP
BUT JUST REMEMBER WHERE YOU’LL END UP
NO, NO — NOT UNDERNEATH THAT BRIDGE
I’M STILL TALKING ‘BOUT GRANDMA’S FRIDGE
EYE LEVEL, ALL YEAR
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
PICTURE DAY —
