Last summer I wrote a blog post called An Open Letter to Mitch Garver of the Minnesota Twins. It’s about Silas, my 7-year-old son, and his obsession with the major league baseball player.
Mitch’s wife Sarah saw the post and got ahold of me through social media. After the post-season (the Twins made it!), Mitch Garver responded.
I’m telling you this for a few reasons. One, so you know the rest of the story. Two, so you can root for Mitch Garver and the Minnesota Twins next season. And three, so you remember that baseball isn’t really about baseball, just like music isn’t really about music. It’s about people sharing a connection and belonging. If you want proof just look at Silas’s face.
